Patriotic Pops

Jump to recipe

Patriotic Pops are a great way to round out your 4th of July menu. Everybody loves them, and they fit well for after dinner, before fireworks, or anytime during the day.

I’ve been making these since my kids were young, but now my twenty-something sons-in-law are the ones who request these the most! They’re truly a treat that appeals to all ages.

You can make these Patriotic Pops up to a week ahead, too, so that will save you time for other last-minute preparations. Guacamole is always a great addition to a menu, and 4th of July Pretzel Dessert is another delicious and festive crowd pleaser. I’m making pretzel dessert without the pretzel crust this year (can you do that??) to accomodate a daughter who just got her wisdom teeth out. We’re loading the menu with soft foods this year!

Do make these pops at least a day ahead, because each layer requires a few hours to freeze before the next one is added.

Regarding ingredients, this is the Kool-Aid and the juice that I used:

Your first step is to mix up the blue Kool-Aid and to set out the cream cheese to get softened. Pour 2 cups of the blue Kool-Aid evenly into 12 5-ounce cups. Remember, you’ll be adding 3 layers to these Patirotic Pops, so the blue layer should fill about 1/3 of the cup.

pour blue Kool-Aid into cups

Arrange your freezer so the pops are level, whether you need to set the cups individually in the door of the freezer or can fit the whole pan in. Freeze the blue layer 2-3 hours.

Next step, whip the cream. If you lack experience whipping cream, whip until the cream has stiff peaks, meaning it will stand up on its own, as in this picture:

Now, whip the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Add the mixture to the whipped cream. Plop on top of the frozen blue layer of each pop.

Make sure the white creamy layer forms a complete seal and that you can’t see the blue when looking down from the top.

Important step: Set timer for 1 hour so you can insert sticks.

Add sticks! Press them down into the white layer so that they stand up.

Now, freeze again for at least one hour. Then, pour on your red layer of juice. Freeze another 2-3 hours before they’re ready to serve!
