Cream cheese party dip is a recipe I have been making a looooong time. I recall being in church youth group in the early ’80s and having one of the kind, generous youth sponsor women–a lady named Cynthia–bring this dip to an event. She said, “Now I’m not sure if you guys will like it. It’s a little bit different.”
Well, we liked it.
In fact, in my family–which has now extended to my grown-up kids–we call it “Cynthia Dip.” Unfortunately, I haven’t seen Cynthia for decades (my kids have never even met her), and she has no idea of the legacy she left us!
I mean, look at that creamy deliciousness!
Making Cream Cheese Party Dip
aka “Cynthia Dip”
This dip is so easy to put together. You only need 4 ingredients: cream cheese, tomatoes, chopped green chiles, and green onions.
Green onions are the long, skinny ones, as in the picture below:
You throw all your chopped ingredients, together with the 2 blocks of cream cheese, in a saucepan.
Heat and stir on medium low, without letting it burn. Serve with chips.
I used to make this every year on New Year’s Eve. I still do, but now we also make it for Christmas, the Super Bowl, 4th of July, and nearly every time we have the whole family together. This dip works well side by side with guacamole dip, so check out my recipe for that as well!
Also, totally unrelated to dip, but check out my post on a brand-new type of footwear that works with the body instead of against it. Xero shoes may be the answer to alleviating the back, foot, knee, and hip pain you’ve been experiencing. These shoes worked for me!

Sweet story! I don’t know if you were at First Baptist at that time? I know a Cynthia from there and was wondering if it was her.
I can’t wait to try it Pam!
This dip is the best!!
Isn’t it, though? Reminds me of many fun New Year’s celebrations at your house!
